Irish comedian Ed Byrne is going to be presenting the Lighting Design Awards, according to lighting.co.uk. Over 700 of the industry's top names will be at the awards taking place in March.

Table bookings are now being taken for the occasion, due to be held at the London Hilton Hotel on Park Lane. The awards are in their 11th year and the event is one of the biggest in the industry's calendar.

According to lightingawards.com shortlisted projects are subject to a rigorous judging process to ensure the awards are given to the very best entrants.

Having such a big name to host the Lighting Design Awards could draw attention to the event and increase interest in the lighting industry as a whole.

People may be inspired to overhaul the lighting in their own homes after hearing about the awards - perhaps opting to add handmade lamps or free-standing lights to their house to create a homely, welcoming atmosphere and bring a modern feel to the place.

Photographs from last year's awards showed some novel lighting designs that could easily be adopted in the house. Experimenting with coloured bulbs can create a completely different feel for a room when placed in a plain lamp. Alternatively, using coloured glass or mosaic lamps will also change the general colour theme of a room.
